Montpellier coach Rene Girard on Wednesday admitted that he may not return to management when he leaves the Ligue 1 club this summer.
Girard led the modest southern outfit to the title for the first time in their history last season, but has been told that his contract will not be renewed when it expires in the summer. Former Marseille and Auxerre coach Jean Fernandez is being tipped to replace him.
"I'm getting old," Girard told reporters on Wednesday ahead of Friday's Ligue 1 match against Lyon.
"I'm pushing 60. I have always put a lot into my work. It's very tiring and you don't always get much feedback.
"I'll take the time to think about my future but if nothing comes up I'll happily take a break for a year, or perhaps until the end of my days.
"If I do something, I like to do it properly. I will only go for an adventure where I can express myself fully."
Montpellier host Lyon on Friday knowing that their chances of qualifying for Europe next season are slim - they currently sit in seventh place in the table, six points off a European finish with six games left.
But Girard urged his team to end the campaign on a high note.
"We are the outgoing champions. Europe is maybe not finished yet, but we need to win and hope that others lose," he said.
