A fast improving side, Montenegro almost qualified for the European Championships in 2012 and could make it to the World Cup in 2014, although they have a tough qualifying section.
If they perform to their best, they could even edge out a sluggish England team managed by Roy Hodgson for the automatic qualifying spot.
A solid defence provides a good base on which their side is built, but attacking talents of the quality of Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic and Mirko Vucinic of Juventus make the Montenegrins a genuine threat.
They have not qualified for a major tournament as an independent country, but it looks more a case of when, rather than if, that happens.
