Apologetic Abidal set for Cup recall after spat

Monaco defender and captain Eric Abidal is in line for a recall after apologising for leaving the Louis II stadium on Sunday after being left out of the side that drew 1-1 against Lille.

"There is no problem with Abidal," said Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri, after the player stormed off before the conclusion of the Lille clash.

"There was a meeting with Vadim (club vice president Vasilyev). He offered an apology. It's finished," added the Italian.

The former Barcelona defender is now set to play in Wednesday's French Cup quarter-final at home to second division Lens.

"He will play. I am not one to hold grudges but an apology was necessary. I don't expect this kind of attitude, even if sometimes I can understand. But the captain must always stand by the team," continued Ranieri.

The French Cup remains Monaco's likeliest chance of silverware this season despite a strong campaign that leaves them in second place and 10 points behind Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
