MK Dons have revealed they rejected an approach from Derby County to speak to their manager Paul Ince.
The Rams unveiled former Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell as their new manager on Wednesday morning following the departure of Billy Davies earlier in the week.
However, the League Two leaders claim Derby made an initial approach for Ince before turning to Jewell.
"Milton Keynes Dons can confirm it has rejected an approach from Derby County to speak to Paul Ince about the vacant managerial position at Pride Park," read a club statement.
"Paul and the team have made an excellent start to the season in League Two, a fact that had not gone unnoticed by clubs in higher divisions.
"However, it was the opinion of the board that the club's best interests would not be served by granting permission for an approach - a decision vindicated by Paul's desire to remain at stadium:mk.
"With reference to continual speculation regarding Paul's future, the club would like to reiterate Paul's ambition to achieve success in Milton Keynes and the club's determination to retain his services."
