Roberto Di Matteo has said that he hopes to be a better manager than he was a player after being unveiled as the new MK Dons boss.
The 38-year-old, who starred for Chelsea and Lazio in an illustrious playing career, as well as representing Italy 34 times, has penned a one-year contract at stadium:mk, with the option for a further 12 months, and is looking forward to the new challenge.
After confirming Eddie Newton and Ade Mafe as assistant manager and fitness coach respectively, he said: "I have never really left football. I still have that fire inside.
"A good player won't necessarily be a good manager. But I'd like to be a more successful manager than I was player.
"There is a good team here already that had success last year.
"We're in a different division now, one step up and I think we can build on that and hopefully keep the momentum going and help the chairman implement his vision which is to take the club even higher."
