Winkelman wants fans support for MK Dons FA cup clash

MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman hopes AFC Wimbledon supporters choose not to boycott next month's FA Cup tie between the two clubs.

The televised second-round clash on December 2 will be the first time the teams have met since the original Wimbledon FC, FA Cup winners in 1988, were relocated to Milton Keynes in 2003. AFC Wimbledon was formed in the wake of that controversial move.

After almost a decade of animosity between the two sets of supporters, ill-feeling in the AFC Wimbledon camp has already reared its head in anticipation of the forthcoming tie with fans threatening to not attend the game at stadium:mk.

Winkelman said: "I'd be very disappointed if they didn't turn up to support their team. In the past Wimbledon have been a team that needs supporting and that's still the case now.

"I can understand the sensitivity with it but the players on the pitch need, and deserve, supporting."
