MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman has expressed his disappointment at England missing out on hosting the 2018 World Cup. Russia were awarded the tournament after a FIFA vote in Zurich on Thursday afternoon, meaning that Milton Keynes, which was a host city as part of England's bid, will miss out on World Cup football. "I can't pretend were not really disappointed," he told Sky Sports News. "The journey we have been on is a fantastic one and it's a bit like losing ion penalties - an outcome we're used to as a nation. "Being in Milton Keynes we haven't had football here for many years so I understand how important it is for Russia to get a World Cup. They were always the big threat to our bid. "There's no hard feelings and at the end of the day we can be proud of what we did. "We have definitely got the flavour for it, we are trying to create an international sports city in Milton Keynes."
