Bowditch ices Dons' cake

Everton loanee Chris Long scored on his debut as MK Dons defeated Shrewsbury 3-2 in an entertaining encounter to move within four points of the play-off places.

The contest was an open one right from the off with the most heart-warming moment of the day unquestionably Dean Bowditch's goal on his comeback from long-term injury.

MK Dons got off to a flyer as Dele Alli got in front of the hesitant Chris Weale to nod in Stephen Gleeson's deep cross in the third minute.

However, Shrewsbury swiftly responded when Sidney Schmeltz played in Aaron Wildig down the right and Ryan Woods was able to bundle in the ball across for his first senior goal.

The Dons regained the lead after 21 minutes when Weale made a great save from Dean Lewington's header, only for Long to squeeze in the rebound.

Bowditch, four minutes into his first appearance of the season, then bent in a superb shot into the far corner before Joe Jacobson's well-taken goal with four minutes remaining gave the Shrews late hope.
