Struggling Millwall sack manager Ian Holloway

Ian Holloway has had his contract terminated by Millwall with immediate effect after 14 months in charge.

Former Lions striker Neil Harris will take over managerial duties for the remainder of the season.

Harris currently works at The New Den coaching the elite development squad and had a previous stint as caretaker-manager last season following the sacking of Steve Lomas and before the appointment of Holloway.

Millwall chairman John Berylson said: "This was a hard decision to take because we very much hoped that Ian would prove to be the man to take us forward and on to the next level. I would like to thank him for his efforts, and in particular for keeping us in the Championship last May. "This season, though, has proved to be an extremely challenging one and we now find ourselves facing another uphill battle to avoid relegation.”

Saturday's 4-1 home defeat to Norwich has left the Londoners second bottom in the Championship and eight points from safety.
