Millwall manager Kenny Jackett has handed a trial to the Preston North End midfielder Darren Carter as he weighs up whether to offer a loan deal to the 26-year-old. Carter is currently with the rest of the Lions squad at their training camp in Devon attempting to land a six-month loan deal. He has spent the last three years at Deepdale following his £750,000 switch from West Bromwich Albion but was transfer-listed by North End boss Darren Ferguson in May. The former Birmingham City player has scored five goals in 61 starts and 32 substitute appearances for Preston. Ferguson has let nine players leave the club since the end of last season but has signed Wayne Brown, Paul Hayes and Craig Morgan already this summer.
