FA charges shock Lions

Millwall are "shocked and disappointed" at the FA charges brought against them following last month's heated Carling Cup clash with London rivals West Ham at Upton Park.

The Lions have been hit with three charges for failing to control their supporters.

A club statement read: "Millwall Football Club are shocked and disappointed that charges have been proffered against us in respect of events that took place at West Ham United on 25 August 2009.

"We maintain that we did everything in our power with regard to our ticketing arrangements for this game. Furthermore we expressed our concerns in advance about ticket allocations and arrangements in general.

"Our question for the Football Association is what can Millwall Football Club do to control individuals' actions once inside our opponents' stadium?"

On the night of the contest, which the hosts won 3-1 after extra-time, 13 people were arrested while a Millwall supporter was stabbed in front of his teenage sons.
