Wolves board back Mick McCarthy by giving him cash to spend during transfer window
Mick McCarthy has been given the clearest indication yet that his job as Wolves' boss is safe after being given the green light to pursue his transfer targets next month.[LNB]I've got the thumbs-up: Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has the full support of his board[LNB]Owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey are allowing McCarthy to follow-up enquiries for Aston Villa's Curtis Davies and Middlesbrough's David Wheater as he attempts to fight his way off the bottom of the Barclays Premier League table.[LNB]While both Sam Allardyce and Chris Hughton have been victims of bizarre sackings this season, McCarthy remains grateful for the support he has been given by Morgan who is waiting to press ahead with a £40m redevelopment of Molineux.[LNB]The re-construction is not dependent on Wolves' retaining their Premier League status, but the addition money would aid cash-flow. Despite this, McCarthy has been told he can start scouring the market.[LNB]'I have a good relationship with Steve and Jez,' said McCarthy, 'A huge amount of trust exists between me and them.[LNB]'I've been told that if players are available to us, then we can try and sign them. Sometimes, though, it's not that easy.[LNB]'So, that is good to know. But they are unhappy with the position, just as I am. Are we concerned? Yes.[LNB]'I agree that it is a breath of fresh air that people seem to be singing off the same hymn sheet. I've had great support, all of the time. The three of us have worked together and I hope that's not going to change.'[LNB] Where do we go from here? Matt Jarvis wants to know how to get Wolves off the bottom of the Premier League table[LNB]McCarthy is not one to trade on goodwill. But Moxey, in particular, is minded to stand by the man he appointed in 2006, even if Wolves are relegated.[LNB]However, the man himself is taking nothing for granted.[LNB]'How long have you lot known me?' he added. 'You know I'm not the sort to wallow in sympathetic syrup when I'm bottom of the league.[LNB]'If it ends in tears, some of you might say: "He was a nice fella and did a good job."[LNB]'But I'm not getting involved in this caramel. We are bottom of the league and we got slapped on Sunday by Wigan and we were crap. I know it and you lot know it.[LNB]'Mind you, it could be worse.
