Wheater won't rest on laurels

Middlesbrough defender David Wheater sees no reason why he cannot build on his successful first full season in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old was an unknown quantity 12 months ago but, after becoming a regular in the Boro defence last term, he is now on the fringe of the full England set-up.
Wheater is looking forward to the new campaign, telling Boro's official website: "A lot of people have talked about the second season thing but I think it's just an excuse for rubbish players really, so hopefully it doesn't affect me!
"I haven't had as much time off as I did last season because I was away with England but I've grafted to get fit after my holiday.
"We're doing a lot of running and some good ball work, so hopefully we'll benefit from that in the future.
"We'll certainly be one of the fittest and fastest teams in the Premier League but also one of the youngest if the new signings play as well.
"I know I can't rest on my laurels. We've a lot of top quality centre-backs with Robert Huth, Emanuel Pogatetz and Chris Riggott all fighting for places.
"I've got to keep playing to my strengths and be as determined as last season in everything I do."
