Wheater waits on Boro offer
18 May 2010 - 16:32:57
Middlesbrough central defender David Wheater has admitted that he would consider signing a new contract if it was offered by the Teessiders.
The 23-year-old stopper's current deal runs out in 12 months' time and Wheater is waiting to see whether he will be offered fresh terms, or possibly be put up for sale this summer.
He told the Evening Gazette: "I've always said I'm happy to stay and I wouldn't ask for a transfer, but it's for the manager, Keith Lamb and the chairman to sort out really.
"I've got a year left, so I'll see what happens in the summer.
"Obviously, if I'm here I want us to get promoted, but you don't know where you're going to be with the way football is at the moment - clubs need cash.
"Obviously, I've got a year left so I'll definitely be back for pre-season. This is my club so I'm going to try my hardest, until I leave.
"I just want to push on now, hopefully get us back into the Premier League and keep playing.
"It would be perfect to get back in to the Premier League with Middlesbrough - that's me set - I wouldn't want anything different."
