Wheater sets sights high
19 Aug 2008 - 15:57:25
Middlesbrough's weekend goalscoring hero David Wheater has spoken of his belief that the Teessiders can become a force in the Premier League.
Defender Wheater, a regular at centre-back last season but impressive at right-back in the 2-1 win over Spurs last weekend, scored the first of Boro's goals.
"I should have had two goals, for the first one Michael Dawson has ripped my shirt and the referee thought I'd knocked him over when I spun him," the 21-year-old told the club's official website.
"It was a fantastic day and we've worked a lot on our fitness and it showed even at 90 minutes, we didn't fold and got the win.
"When we play well I genuinely think we are one of the better teams in the league and we should be aiming quite high.
"We showed on Saturday we're very energetic and we've got the pace to cause teams problems."
