Wheater relishing McManus partnership

Middlesbrough defender David Wheater is hoping a clean bill of health can help he and summer signing Stephen McManus form a formidable central defensive partnership. The pair played their part in securing a clean sheet in Saturday's 0-0 npower Championship draw at Leicester and 23-year-old Wheater is confident an extended run alongside Scotland international McManus - known as "Mick" - will pay dividends as the Teessiders attempt to drag themselves back into the Barclays Premier League. Wheater, who played with McManus during his loan spell at Boro last season, told the club's official website: "I feel more confident this season. I have always said I like playing with Mick. "In the past I have had a lot of centre-halves who got injured a lot but I think Mick's going to be there for a lot of games, so it makes me feel good about myself."
