Middlesbrough number two Malcolm Crosby has hit out at Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock's criticism of Boro manager Gareth Southgate.
Warnock said he was disgusted by Southgate's team selection for the 2-0 home defeat by Manchester City at the weekend, with Julio Arca, Jonathan Woodgate and Mark Viduka all left out of the starting eleven ahead of the FA Cup replay with Manchester United two days later.
However, Crosby feels that Warnock was way out of line with his verbal assault on Southgate.
He told the club's official website: "I have seen the reports from Neil Warnock at Sheffield United and what he said is totally wrong.
"I know Neil from a long time past because I was a player with him at Aldershot and his comments are a load of rubbish, to be honest.
"I spoke to somebody regarding that at Sheffield United and really he should apologise to Gareth.
"I do not think we had any choice when you look at the team selection.
"Arca was injured and could not have played on Saturday and we had to make sure Viduka and Woodgate could play a game against Manchester United.
"It would have been very hard for them to play the two games."
