Afonso Alves - Heerenveen to Middlesbrough, £12.7m

His goal-to-game ratio in Holland was better than a goal a game, so when the Brazilian International signed for Middlesbrough in 2008, expectations were high.

He moved to Teeside from Heerenveen for £12.7m but he could only manage 10 goals for Boro in 42 games.

Middlesbrough were relegated just a year-and-a-half after he joined the club.

Afonso Alves moved to Qatar, never to be seen again.
