Thomson pleased with choice

New Middlesbrough signing Kevin Thomson has admitted he had reservations about joining the Championship outfit.

Manager Gordon Strachan brought the midfielder to the north east from Scottish Premier League giants Rangers for £2million and he now believes he has made the right decision as the ambitious Riverside Stadium-based outfit look to propel themselves back into the Premier League.

"From a player's point of view, and a personal point of view, I certainly wasn't happy to join a Championship club happy to stay a Championship club," said Thomson.

"It's quite clear the manager wants to have a real go by the money he is spending and the players he is bringing in.

"He wants to add further quality and if that can be added I'm sure the golden carrot of playing in the Premier League, which excites me, will be fulfilled."
