Tavares heads to the Riverside

Middlesbrough have completed the loan signing of Hamburg midfielder Mickael Tavares. Tavares, who has won five caps for Senegal, will stay at the Riverside Stadium until January, although there is an option to extend the deal for the rest of the season. The 27-year-old will not feature in Saturday's npower Championship clash at Barnsley as the club did not receive international clearance from the German FA in time. Tavares told Boro's official website: "I am looking forward to it and hope I can earn a permanent contract here. "I know English football is very aggressive, physical and tough, but so is German football. I think they are very similar so it shouldn't be too difficult for me to play here." Boro boss Gordon Strachan added: "Mickael is holding midfielder but he can do a bit more too, so I think he'll be a good addition. I really like what I've seen of him."
