Strachan targets Kitson stay

Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan is hopeful of being able to persuade loan striker Dave Kitson to extend his stay at the Riverside beyond an initial six-week stint.

The 29-year-old Stoke City frontman has netted twice in two games for Boro and Strachan is impressed by what he has seen.

He told the Northern Echo: "I think if a player enjoys scoring goals and playing football every week, it makes a difference. They're the things we'd like to give to Dave.

"Sometimes, that can affect the way you're thinking when your loan spell is coming to an end.

"Sometimes, when you go back, you might not get the same enjoyment because you might not be playing every week and scoring goals.

"I would like to think that we'd do so well over the next few matches that Dave would think again."
