Strachan snaps up Bailey

Middlesbrough coach Gordon Strachan has added midfielder Nicky Bailey to his ranks after he joined from League One side Charlton Athletic.

The tough-tackling schemer has signed a three-year contract at the Riverside Stadium after the two clubs agreed a deal believed to be in the region of £1.4million.

Speaking to the club's official website, Strachan said: "We're delighted to sign Nicky. He scores goals and all different kinds of goals.

"He can play left side of midfield or centre midfield and he's self-motivated. There's also a devil inside him when he plays and you sometimes need that."

Meanwhile, Strachan believes fellow newcomer Kris Boyd will shine in the north east after moving from Rangers.

"The chairman has done well and the club has done well to get Kris," he said.

"We know all about Kris and what he can do. Of course the fans are going to be excited.

"Kris is not a dribbler or a flamboyant player, but he is the type of footballer who can score lots of goals.

"We like what we see of Kris and we think he will fit in well here. The only point he wants to prove is to do well for his team-mates and manager and he will do that by working hard for the team."
