Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan was pleased that his side grabbed their second Championship home victory under his reign by beating Barnsley 2-1.
Goals from Chris Killen and Gary O'Neil secured the three points but Strachan received a boost prior to kick-off with Emanuel Pogatetz and Scott McDonald offering their services.
The duo were set to miss the contest with Pogatetz struggling from a hamstring problem and McDonald being unfit but they made a plea during a pre-match training session.
Speaking to The Gazette, Strachan said: "I honestly didn't expect Pogatetz and McDonald to play.
"But we trained yesterday morning and they both came to see me and said they wanted to play and help us out.
"They both gave everything they could in what I thought was a good team performance."
