Strachan impressed with Williams` potential

Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan put his faith in Rhys Williams' versatility when he handed him a new three-and-a-half-year contract. The 22-year-old Australian, who had 18 months of his existing deal to run, has been rewarded for his efforts so far this season with an extension. Williams has played in defence and midfield for the Coca-Cola Championship club and that was part of the attraction for Strachan. Asked what had particularly impressed him during his time at the club, Strachan said: "His potential. There are loads of things we can do with him that are going to make him better. "He can play in different positions, that's for sure, and when you have a smallish squad, that's helpful if people can play in different positions."
