Strachan gets winning feeling

Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan was relieved that his side got their season up and running with a 2-1 Carling Cup win at Chesterfield. Boro crashed to Ipswich on the opening day of the Championship but goals from Scott McDonald and Julio Arca proved enough to sink the League Two Spireites who netted a late consolation through Dwayne Mattis. Strachan said: "It was good to get the win. We kept it as tight as we could, we had 13 players missing but we put a team out that we thought could do a job and worked on the formation. "I liked what I saw, the young boy Luke Williams did well and young Josh Walker started very well, we asked him to be brave on the ball and he did that. David Wheater was also very good for us. "I thought Scott McDonald was terrific, he held the ball up well and Leroy Lita was a constant threat, that was one of his best games for us."
