MIDDLESBROUGH have secured Preston North End defender Sean St Ledger on loan with a view to a permanent transfer in January. The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international had travelled with North End for Tuesday night's Coca-Cola Championship trip to Scunthorpe, but left the team hotel during the morning to hold talks on Teesside. St Ledger is expected to go straight into Boro's squad for tonight's game at Sheffield Wednesday. The initial loan deal will run until early December as emergency loan deals can only last 93 days. Preston rate St Ledger in the £3-4m bracket. The Republic of Ireland St Ledger, who has been given the squad number 12, met his new team-mates for the first time at the team hotel today. Boro manager Gareth Southgate said: "I'm really delighted to be able to bring Sean in. He's somebody we think is already a class act. "He reads the game really well, he's got great composure and we think he'll be a good foil for our other centre-halves.
