Spurs look north for striker Kenwyne and Middlesbrough captain Downing

Harry Redknapp is reportedly lining up a double raid on the North East for Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones and Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing. Tottenham have a long-running interest in England winger Downing and sense that he could finally leave the Teesside club if they are relegated, as expected, from the Barclays Premier League. The Spurs boss will also renew his interest in Trinidad & Tobago striker Jones, who was a target in January, according to the Daily Mirror. The 24-year-old signed a new long-term deal at the Stadium of Light to ward off interest early this year, but that appears not to have deterred Spurs, who will reportedly test the water with a £10million bid. Despite re-signing Jermain Defoe from Portsmouth and Robbie Keane from Liverpool, Redknapp may have to further increase his forward line as Roman Pavlyuchenko and Darren Bent have been tipped for the exit and Fraizer Campbell is set to return to Manchester United after an unproductive season-long loan. Sunderland may be keen on taking Bent in part-exchange for Jones, but the England striker is thought to be more keen on a move to Everton.
