Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has defended manager Gareth Southgate, insisting he 'will not be made a scapegoat' for the club's relegation. Speaking to fans on local Teesside radio, Gibson faced criticism of himself and Southgate. He said: 'I am convinced Gareth is the right man. We have not been good enough. That is not down to Gareth, it is down to me, the club and the players. 'Not only will he get us back to the Premiership, when we get there we will be a force. 'It has been a difficult period. There is some blood on the carpet and there has been some hard talking. 'It would be wrong to make a change at this time.' Gibson spoke after a day of talks with Southgate, who admitted Tuncay Sanli will be leaving.
