Southgate concerned for Huth
06 Oct 2008 - 15:05:52
Middlesbrough defender Robert Huth could be the latest member of Gareth Southgate's squad to spend a period on the sidelines.
The Germany international's ankle problem forced him to miss the 1-0 win at Wigan Athletic, but the swelling is so bad that the injury cannot be fully assessed until later in the week.
A concerned Southgate told the Evening Gazette: "Robert has a problem with his ankle ligaments but we don't yet know the full extent of the injury.
"The area is very swollen and it's difficult to give an accurate assessment at this stage. However, we should have a clearer picture by the end of the week."
Boro face Chelsea in two weeks' time with captain Emanuel Pogatetz suspended for the game, while left-back Andrew Taylor could be out for three weeks with a hip injury and Julio Arca is still struggling with an ankle problem.
Southgate hopes there is no repeat of the last round of international fixtures when Tuncay and Mohamed Shawky picked up injuries, adding: "The international break wasn't too kind to us last time.
"We've got a lot of players away again this week. in fact we've got only six or seven left.
"Hopefully everybody will come back fine this time. After the win against Wigan, everybody will want to play against Chelsea."
