Middlesbrough striker Yakubu has been backed to get back on the scoresheet in the near future, having gone six games without a goal in recent weeks.
The 24-year-old scored in three consecutive games before his recent drought and Southgate has no doubts that Yakubu will soon add to his season's tally of 16.
He told the Evening Gazette: "Once Yakubu starts scoring goals again he will go on a run.
"We have had some very difficult away games where we haven't created many chances. The strikers have had little service and that's why we haven't scored many goals.
"But I have no doubt in my mind that Yakubu will always score goals. He's in the top five scorers in the Premiership and he will get more given the service.
"We have looked into the lack of goals recently and we have to learn from where things have not gone our way. A great deal depends on the service and being positive."
