Southgate dismisses Neville talk

Gareth Southgate has denied offering Everton skipper Phil Neville a coaching role at Middlesbrough. A newspaper report on Friday morning claimed that Southgate had approached his former England team-mate about a job with the backroom team at The Riverside. Southgate admits he has a lot of respect for Neville but insists there is no truth in the story. The Boro boss also concedes that even if he had been interested in Neville there would have been little chance of prising him away from Goodison Park. "The only time I have spoken to Phil is when we were in the same hotel together on holiday," said Southgate. "While I would love to have someone of his ability at our club, I imagine he's a key part of what David Moyes wants to do at Everton. "He's just captained them to an FA Cup final and I would not even think of approaching him."
