Shearer: Focus is on Middlesbrough

Newcastle manager Alan Shearer admits that the home clash with Middlesbrough next Monday will go a long way to deciding his side's fate this season. The Toon Army slipped to a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday in a match which saw midfielder Joey Barton sent off late on for a reckless challenge on Xabi Alonso. Newcastle are three points adrift of 17th-placed Hull, who have a game in hand, and Shearer believes the visit of Middlesbrough will prove vital. "Our fate was not going to be decided at Anfield, it is a very difficult place to get anything," said Shearer. "Our fate will be decided by our two home games with the next one against Middlesbrough next Monday probably the biggest game this club has had for a very long time."
