DAVID Wheater believes it is now time Middlesbrough fulfilled their pre-season potential and pushed on for promotion after his side recorded their second successive win against Reading.[LNB] Wheater was on target in the 3-1 win over Brian McDermott's side, which elevated the Teessiders to within two points of the play-offs.[LNB] After a difficult start to the season, Boro appear to have finally struck gold and Wheater believes the last seven days have been crucial in the club's bid to push for promotion.[LNB] It's been massive to get six points on the board, he said.[LNB] We always said it was too early in the season to write us off but I think we're starting to show what a team we can be and with the players we've got, I've always said we should be higher in the league than we have been.[LNB] It's been a massive week.[LNB] We've got maximum points and we've played like more of a team today. We just need to keep getting the wins.[LNB] Boro got off to the best possible start when Barry Robson fired in a low shot after just 24 seconds and Wheater claimed the early goal gave the side the confidence they've been lacking in previous games.[LNB] It was great to get the confidence up and when you get an early goal it sets you up for the game nicely. We went on to get another one and worked as a team and got the victory.[LNB] We've had our time to gel and now we should be playing like this every game. Hopefully we can keep getting clean sheets and score more goals.[LNB] We always work on the attacking side of the game and now we've got Leroy (Lita) and Scott (McDonald), who are going to work for you.[LNB] Hopefully they'll continue to score goals.[LNB] The Redcar-born defender added Boro's third goal, his first for the club since February, and he admitted he thought he had missed the chance.[LNB] I could have had a few but I wasn't quick enough of the mark in the first half but in the second half, Mick (Mc- Manus) and I got it right with our movement.[LNB] I thought I had missed because it came off the top of my head and I thought it had gone over, but I had a celebration planned and it went well.[LNB]
