Pogatetz dismisses exit talk

Austria international Emanuel Pogatetz has refuted reports suggesting he will leave Middlesbrough in the summer if the Teessiders are relegated to the Championship.

The 26-year-old has made almost 150 appearances for Boro since joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2005 and insists he has no intention of leaving.

"I badly want to continue my career here and I will be doing everything in my power to help us stay in the Premier League," he said.

"The scenario I am hoping for is that, not only do Middlesbrough stay up but that I can agree an extension to my contract with the club."

Earlier in the week, Pogatetz had been quoted as saying: "I'm 26 years old and I want to continue playing at the highest level.

"Should I leave in the summer, it will be for sporting reasons or to go to a club that plays in Europe or one with high ambitions.

"It becomes tiring to fight relegation every season."
