Former Middlesbrough defender Stuart Parnaby has joined Birmingham City on a free transfer, penning a three-year contract at St Andrew's.

The 24-year-old was allowed to leave Boro at the end of the season after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot, but Parnaby is keen to prove his worth in the top-flight.

He told his new club's official website: "It will be a great challenge for the team being in the Premier League.

"All the lads coming up will be buzzing about being in the Premier League now, after being used to playing in the Championship for a season.

"I know what it takes after playing with Boro in Europe and the Premier League, so hopefully I can bring that bit of experience to the younger players in the team and we can push on and stay in the top-flight."

Parnaby had been with Boro for seven years, scoring four goals in 127 appearances in all competitions.
