Middlesbrough midfielder Gary O'Neil insists he has no regrets about swapping Portsmouth for Teesside last summer.
The former England Under-21 international opted to join Boro from the south coast club in August and has made 29 appearances for Gareth Southgate's side this season.
Had he remained at Fratton Park then the 24-year-old midfielder could have been preparing for an FA Cup Final appearance next month, but O'Neil believes he made the right decision for his career when he headed north.
"Obviously I still have a lot of friends down there and I want them to go on and win the cup, but for me it was good to get a change and get some new surroundings," he told the club's official website.
"I've enjoyed my first season.
"We're not as far up the league as we would have liked, but we have a couple of decent spells and if we can make those spells longer next year we will get higher up this league.
"We have shown we can compete against the best and it would be good to finish it off with a good few wins and make our league position a little bit healthier."
