Mixed fortunes for St Ledger

Middlesbrough defender Sean St Ledger did not know whether to laugh or cry after opening his senior international goalscoring account.[LNB]The 24-year-old looked to have headed the Republic of Ireland to a famous World Cup qualifier victory over the mighty Italy on Saturday night when he dived to meet Stephen Hunt's 87th-minute free-kick and power it past keeper Gianluigi Buffon.[LNB]However, three minutes later, Irish hearts were broken when substitute Alberto Gilardino made it 2-2.[LNB]Asked about his goal, St Ledger said: "It was unbelievable - things probably don't get much better as an individual. I don't usually get up for corners either but my scoring record for Middlesbrough has been pretty good.[LNB]"I just couldn't believe it, really. I was tired running back. Then obviously on the flip-side there was the worst feeling, conceding the goal we did."
