Woodgate in Boro frame

Central defender Jonathan Woodgate could return to the Middlesbrough squad for the home clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

The former England international missed Tuesday night's 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest as a result of his exertions in the 4-1 victory at Charlton three days earlier but is expected to be available.

Manager Tony Mowbray, who has himself been struggling with a virus, will make late checks on a series of other players before naming his team.

Strikers Ishmael Miller and Marvin Emnes are nursing hamstring problems and like midfielder Kevin Thomson, who has a calf strain, will be assessed.

Muzzy Carayol and Curtis Main (both knee), Julio Arca (toe) and Rhys Williams (ankle ligaments) remain on the long-term casualty list.

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Paul Corry will undergo a late fitness test.

The Irishman, who sustained an ankle injury in the recent home win over Peterborough, missed the midweek home defeat to Blackpool and should he fail to make it Rhys McCabe will continue.

Manager Dave Jones has no new injury or suspension problems and is unlikely to make any changes to his side despite Tuesday night's setback.

Jones has made no secret of his desire for a settled side and is expected to retain a 4-3-3 formation, which can comfortably switch to a 4-5-1 system away from home.

Winger Jermaine Johnson and Spanish striker Rodri are pushing for recalls after stepping off the substitutes' bench in midweek, but Jones is likely to stick with Michail Antonio, Chris O'Grady and Jay Bothroyd as his front three.
