Gibson banned for Boro

Defender Ben Gibson will miss Middlesbrough's clash with Leeds through suspension.

The 21-year-old will sit out the game at the Riverside Stadium after being sent off in last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Watford.

Goalkeeper Shay Given will play the final game of his three-month loan spell before returning to parent club Aston Villa. Striker Lee Tomlin could make a debut after completing the three-match ban with which he arrived from Peterborough and making his initial loan move permanent this week.

Keeper Jason Steele played for the under-21s in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Burnley on Tuesday and is close to a return after ankle surgery, but Daniel Ayala is out for around six weeks after undergoing a procedure on his ankle and Rhys Williams could miss the rest of the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

On-loan goalkeeper Jack Butland is in line to make his Leeds debut in the lunchtime kick-off.

The 20-year-old joined United from Stoke on Thursday and is expected to deputise for first-choice stopper Paddy Kenny, who is set to miss out for the first time this season with an ankle injury.

Defender Sam Byram is also struggling with a hamstring problem, so Lee Peltier could be recalled to the starting line-up.

Winger Cameron Stewart is available after his loan was suspended ahead of last week's defeat at Brighton to ensure he can play in all but the final game of the season, while Noel Hunt is hoping to feature again. He stepped off the bench at Brighton after recovering from a hamstring injury.
