Clayton could face former club

Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton will return to the squad for the home Sky Bet Championship clash with his former club Huddersfield.

The 26-year-old missed last weekend's 0-0 draw at Reading through suspension following his dismissal during the FA Cup third-round victory at Barnsley.

Emilio Nsue is on African Nations Cup duty with Equatorial Guinea while fellow full-back Ryan Fredericks is still out with a thigh muscle injury, with loan signing Tomas Kalas in line to deputise once again after making his debut at the Madejski Stadium.

However, defender Milos Veljkovic has returned to parent club Tottenham after his three-month stay at the Riverside Stadium.

Midfielder Muzzy Carayol is closing in on a return from knee ligament damage but Damia Abella (also knee) remains on the sidelines while luckless utility man Rhys Williams is in the early stages of his recovery from a second serious Achilles injury.

Huddersfield midfielder Jonathan Hogg will return to contention following suspension.

Hogg missed last week's home win against Watford after being sent off in the recent FA Cup defeat to Reading and boss Chris Powell must decide whether to recall him or retain Oscar Gobern in the starting line-up.

Forward Harry Bunn and defender Murray Wallace both missed out last week due to respective hamstring problems and will be assessed, while centre-half Joel Lynch (groin) is expected to continue after returning last week following a six-game injury lay-off.

Huddersfield are chasing a third straight home league win, while winger Danny Ward completed his permanent move to Rotherham this week.
