MIDDLESBROUGH 2 DONCASTER 0

22 August 2009 17:02
MIDDLESBROUGH extended their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Doncaster at the Riverside. Strike duo Tuncay Sanli and Leroy Lita scored a goal apiece as Boro made it three wins in the space of seven days. And at the other end of the field, centre-halves David Wheater and Robert Huth recorded their fourth clean sheet in succession to cement Boros position as one of the favourites for promotion to the Premier League. Gareth Southgates challenge now, of course, is to keep hold of both players before the transfer window closes on September 1. Tuncay started todays game on the bench, but the Turkey international was introduced in the 16th minute to replace the injured Marvin Emnes. Emnes suffered concussion as a result of a reckless challenge from Doncaster goalkeeper Neil Sullivan, who was lucky to escape with a yellow card. Tuncay meted out his own punishment within a minute of coming onto the field though. Lita flicked on Mark Yeates' long throw and Tuncay fired home a clinical finish. Lita made the points safe with his first goal as a Middlesbrough player in the 71st minute, stealing to the front post to head home Tony McMahon's right-wing cross.
