Middlesbrough 0 Blackpool 3: Fans turn on Strachan as Fletcher-Taylor hits two

09 December 2009 01:08
Gary Taylor- Fletcher became Blackpool's very own 'double-barrel shotgun' last night to kill off Middlesbrough with two goals in five minutes. [LNB]And, to add insult to injury, Blackpool manager Ian Holloway hit out at Boro fans who booed their team as the goals flew in. [LNB]He said: 'We came here to get the fans on their backs and they have to realise the price of a ticket does not guarantee you a win. You need to encourage and support otherwise you are not a football supporter, you are a football moaner. It doesn't matter how much you are paid, you need to play in a healthy environment.' [LNB]The bounce-back promotion owner Steve Gibson craves looks aeons awayafter another shocking home performance and embarrassing humiliation. [LNB]Taylor-Fletcher, Blackpool's lone striker, took his goal tally forthe season to five thanks to the generosity of central defensivepartners David Wheater and Sean St Ledger, two of Gordon Strachan'smost consistent players this season, who had an awful night. [LNB]Under pressure: Boro fans turn on Strachan following home defeat[LNB]St Ledger's unconvincing 21st- minute challenge allowed theBlackpool striker to put the finishing touches to the clever work oftiny Barry Bannan. [LNB]Five minutes later Bannan supplied a carbon copy second forTaylor-Fletcher. Blackpool's dominance provoked a predictable reactionfrom the few Boro supporters who turned out last night. [LNB]They booed the team off at half-time and full-time, and jeered every Boro error - of which there were many. [LNB]By the time Charlie Adam waltzed through the entire Boro back lineto score seven minutes from the end, most of the 18,089 crowd had leftfor the night. [LNB]But at least the 893 who travelled from the Lancashire coast enjoyed every minute of it. [LNB]Holloway even granted their wish and performed a celebratory dance at the end. [LNB]Strachan admitted: 'I think everybody is surprised we did so well inthe last few games and then we play so poorly. Nobody is proud of theirperformance, nobody, including me.[LNB] 'We have to look at it and find the answers quick because it isbecoming a trend. The supporters here have been fantastic and verypatient so it cannot be that pressure. It was a night when they hadevery right to boo.' [LNB]Holloway added: 'It was pretty hard to stay positive with our awayrecord. We have been abysmal but I tinkered with one or two things andimportant things went our way.[LNB] 'We had two shots and scored two goals. We had 25 shots in the last away game and got nowt.' [LNB]The one relief for Boro is that the injury suffered by Gary O'Neilwill not be long-lasting.
