Middlesbrough misfit Massimo Maccarone has ended his nightmare spell in the Premiership after completing a move to Italian side Siena.
The former Italy Under-21 international moved to Boro for a club record £8.15million in 2002 but struggled to adapt and made just 53 starts.
Maccarone, 27, scored 23 goals in all competitions including dramatic late winners in the quarter-final and semi-final wins over Basel and Steaua Bucharest during Boro's run to the UEFA Cup final last season.
The former Empoli striker was also loaned out to Parma and Siena during his five unhappy seasons at the Riverside.
Maccarone has agreed a four-year deal with the Serie A side.
Meanwhile, Boro boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed he expects to have injured striker Mark Viduka back for Saturday's visit of Arsenal.
The Australia international striker has missed the last two games with a hamstring strain.
