Germany coach Joachim Low is hoping that defender Robert Huth's move to Middlesbrough will aid his progress as an international player.
Huth left Chelsea just before the transfer window closed to end four frustrating years at Stamford Bridge and Low was pleased to see him moving on.
He said: "I hope the regular playing time will give him another boost in performance.
"You have to see how the next weeks in England will go. I think in the long-term picture, it is very important for him to get regular first-team action.
"In the last two years he did not play much at all, but every time we needed him, he really played well."
Meanwhile, Boro skipper George Boateng has been told to rest his injured knee for ten days.
The Dutch midfielder would have missed the weekend clash with Bolton Wanderers due to suspension in any case, but is now a serious doubt for the Carling Cup second round tie with Notts County.
