Lamb: Wheater holds key to revival

Chief executive Keith Lamb believes that Middlesbrough-born defender David Wheater is pivotal to the club's revival plans. Despite Boro's relegation from the Premier League Wheater, who has two year remaining on his contract at the Riverside, has vowed to stay and help the club regain its top flight status. And Lamb insists the 22-year-old centre-half has a big part to play in that, he told the Evening Gazette: "We are looking forward to David becoming the cornerstone of our defence in future years. "We are absolutely delighted that David has come out publicly and said that he is staying at Middlesbrough. We have a fight on our hands and David is up for the fight." Wheater is currently recovering from a knee operation but will be fit for the start of the Championship campaign on August 8.
