Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has allowed midfielder Adam Johnson to join Watford on a three-month loan deal.
The England Under-21 international has already made 38 first-team appearances for Boro and played in last month's Carling Cup victory against Northampton Town.
He also starred in five games during a loan spell with Leeds United last term.
Hornets boss Aidy Boothroyd is delighted with his latest acquisition, telling his club's official website: "He's a young livewire who I enquired about last season.
"Gareth Southgate then called me recently to see if I was still interested.
"I'm thrilled to have him here as he'll push Jobi McAnuff and Tommy Smith and will give us further options out wide."
