Johnson relieved with penalty effort

Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Johnson has emerged from Stewart Downing's shadow to establish himself as a genuine threat to Coca-Cola Championship defences. The England Under-21 international took his tally to three goals in the last two games with a double in the 2-0 win at Scunthorpe. However, he was a relieved man when he found the back of the net for the second time from the spot after being brought down by Joe Murphy as he attempted to convert the rebound from the keeper's initial penalty save. Johnson told Boro's official website, www.mfc.co.uk: "I was just grateful I had a chance to take another penalty. My first one was poor, I took it too slow and maybe I was a bit too confident. "But there was no way anyone else was taking the second one, I had to redeem myself. "That was the first time in my career I can remember missing a penalty, and I didn't want it to happen again."
