Irvine salutes St Ledger

Preston boss Alan Irvine believes Sean St Ledger has the potential to become "a top player" after he completed his move to Middlesbrough. St Ledger joined Boro several hours before Preston were defeated 3-1 at Scunthorpe and while Irvine believes the sudden departure was not a factor behind the loss, the player will be missed by the club. He said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him and Middlesbrough have got a really good player. I think he'll continue to improve and go on to be a top player." He added: "I don't think it was an influence, we had a team out there that was capable of winning the game. "I am disappointed and I didn't want Sean to go but I understand what effect money has both in terms of clubs and players and I accept Sean has gone and we have to move on."
