Hull City's flop striker Folan set for switch to Middlesbrough on loan

Republic of Ireland striker Caleb Folan has completed a three-month loan move to Middlesbrough after Hull boss Phil Brown admitted he never looked like scoring in the Premier League. Folan may have impressed Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni in the last year but Brown has agreed to let him leave the KC Stadium after he scored just one goal in the top flight - in the first game of last season. The Leeds-born forward, 26, will join Gareth Southgate's promotion-chasing Championship squad on loan until December, with a view to a permanent £1million deal. Folan is expected to train with the rest of the Boro squad this morning as they prepare for Saturday's crucial clash with league leaders and fellow relegated club West Brom. Folan, who started his career at Leeds, before moves to Chesterfield, Wigan and Hull, will join Ireland team-mate Sean St Ledger in the Boro squad. St Ledger made his Boro debut in Tuesday's win at Sheffield Wednesday. Brown said: `We talked long and hard over the last two weeks over who we would let go. We always look to make decisions with a view to progress and as a result, we’ve allowed Caleb to talk with Middlesbrough. `There are a lot of players on the front line competing for places. Caleb didn’t score in his four games this season and didn’t really look like scoring either.'
