HATCHET MAN: When players can count the fans at a near-empty Riverside, Pogatetz thinks it's brillia

Expectations at Middlesbrough [LNB]are so low these days that Emanuel Pogatetz thinks the noise made by their fans in a 15,602 crowd equates to 'a great atmosphere'. He said: 'They were absolutely brilliant.'[LNB]After being asked by the club to quieten down because 'constant noise is driving some fans mad', the defender thought the pathetic turnout for their FA Cup win against West Ham[LNB]was a fine reaction.[LNB] [LNB]Bring on Doncaster: Middlesbrough's David Wheater warms up for a season of empty stadia much to Emanuel Pogatetz's delight[LNB]A considerable number of the supporters at The Riverside were with the away side too, which makes it even less impressive, and yet Middlesbrough finally managed to produce a win.[LNB]Maybe they are just a contrary bunch and prefer performing in front of fewer people. They should do quite well in the Championship next season then.[LNB]   More from Hatchet Man... Simon Jordan [LNB]27/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Gray was pie in the Sky when he said Baggies lack fight - West Brom lack quality not bottle[LNB]27/02/09 HATCHET MAN: If Liverpool send for Mourinho it will be Benitez's own fault - at least Jose knows how to sign contracts and win Premier League titles [LNB]27/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Maybe whining Blades boss Blackwell can blame West Ham for FA Cup defeat and sue the referee for loss of income[LNB]27/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Kalou - not good enough as a striker, not good enough as a winger, not good enough for a new contract - except at Arsenal[LNB]27/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Plastic pitches and reserve teams: Don't Villa and Spurs just love the UEFA Cup experience?[LNB]26/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Happy, injury-free and motivated - childish Drogba forgets to complain and hobble now Guus rules the Stamford Bridge roost [LNB]26/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Toure, late for the game, late to ditch moneybags City, late to pledge loyalty to the Gunners - what a loyal club man he is[LNB]26/02/09 VIEW FULL ARCHIVE[LNB]  [LNB]
